Day 5: Chianti Cruising
Distance: 40km. Elevation: 810m.

Thanks to my way of cycling being in the highest gear possible not lending itself well to hills, plus the fact I don’t do much cycling outside of commuting and teaching spin, my knee decided it wasn’t having any of it.
This meant my activity didn’t go much further than cycling to Gaiole in Chianti for breakfast and spending most of the day stretching and mobilising to ease off my hip flexors.
Gaiole completely bases itself on cycling, with an overpriced shop filled with Eroica jerseys and other products linking back to cycling, such as a belt made from a tyre! Alongside the token mug and t-shirt.

Breakfast
I ‘ Galletto Briaco, Via G. Marconi, 23, 53013 Gaiole In Chianti SI, Italy
We stopped for pastries (as apparently that’s what Italians only eat for breakfast).
Lunch
A Tutta Birra, Via Bettino Ricasoli, 60, 53013 Gaiole In Chianti SI, Italy
Because we were mooching around for a fair ol’ while, we stopped for a light lunch and a drink too at A Tutta Birra. Food was okay, but being served up on a white plastic plate and after hearing a microwave ping, it seemed a little odd, but then again they’re more about beer.

Dinner
Locanda del Tartufaio, SP114/B, 16, 53013 Monti SI, Italy.
Back to Locanda del Tartufaio of course.
We were also greeted with a bottle of his local prosecco and said our goodbyes with a shot of grappa.
