Sweat Society, Surbiton

It’s another Surrey gym post!

Working my way round my new stomping ground, as being a personal trainer, fitness is an important part of my life.

I now have a lovely list of places to check out so stay tuned for more as I make my way round Surrey.

What is Sweaty Society exactly?

One thing I miss about London is the boutique fitness scene, with all the David Lloyds and Nuffield Healths in Surrey, that personal touch is missing as the big gyms make their money off you not wanting to go to the gym!

However, it seems that surburbia is changing!

Cobham has as many boutique studios as houses, The HIIT House opening in Oxshott and Surbiton has Sweat Society.

When I asked my Instagram about where to head, countless people recommended Sweat Society. It’s like the village local feeling well and truly part of the community, except they don’t pour pints here, more sweat!

Originally a Bikram yoga studio, before it rebranded in October 2017, there is still a lot of Bikram and hot yoga on the timetable. As well has this, they’ve literally brought their own spin to the studio in Surbiton with spinning, HIIT and Strength classes.

Sweat Society Surbiton

The Classes

  • Bikram
  • HIIT
  • Hot 90
  • Spin
  • Strength
  • Sweat
  • Sculpt
  • Flow Yoga
  • Candle Light Yoga
  • Kids Yoga
  • Kids HIIT

So far, I’ve tried three of their classes.

Hot Yoga

Led by Amanda every Monday and Thursday, this class is becoming a regular in my routine. She knows everyone’s name and makes what is an incredibly popular class feel personal by calling out any postural corrections. It’s similar faces week on week which adds warmth to the class, with the addition of the heating system.

HIIT

Not my regular kind of class, but I was on a 2 week deal for £30 so I wanted to try a fair few classes. There’s not much to add to HIIT as it’s pretty self explanatory but let me tell you, there was a lot of high intensity, heart rates and energy, from the class (until the end!) and the instructor, Rachele.

Strength

Does exactly what it says on the tin. 45 minutes of lifting weights for time or reps (you choose).  Modified to suit whichever level you’re starting at, and for you newcomers to strength work, don’t be fooled by “low impact”, you’ll definitely feel it afterwards. The classes I’ve been to are led by Karen, who has a magic way of making anyone smile or laugh through the pain she’s putting you through!

Where is it?

My Review

  • Sweat Level: 9.5/10. The clue is in the name of the studio. Everything here is designed to make you sweat (apart from the super chilled out candlelit yoga). Also, don’t be lulled into a sense of false security with the word “yoga” as it’s as much of a workout as any other class, and don’t get me started on the core burning finishers!
  • Value: 10/10. You’ve got 2 intro offers of either 2 weeks for £30 or a month for £50. From there it’s £13 for a drop in or £67 for a monthly membership which is bloody great value!
  • Facilities: 8.5/10. The trainers are a solid 10/10 in terms of their knowledge, knowing your name and class programming. The clean space ticks all the boxes for what the classes offer.
